The Amundsen cable will operate along large parts of the Norwegian coast and ensure that local communities have good infrastructure in the form of electricity and broadband.
The newly started Bømlo company Amundsen Kabel has clear ambitions to become a leading player in submarine cable services. The market has already responded positively and the first contract has been signed.
Amundsen Cable originates from Amundsen Diving, which has over 47 years of experience in various types of underwater operations.

MUST STAND ON OWN LEGS
Amundsen Kabel is nevertheless a new company that will stand on its own two feet, and which aims for larger cable operations than Amundsen Diving has done previously.
– There is a great need for the development and security of infrastructure related to electricity and fiber along the Norwegian coast. Amundsen Cable should be able to take on cable laying over longer distances, in addition to transport and maintenance, Tingvoll Hope continues.
There is now a lot of activity to prepare for the mission, which is planned to be completed in the second quarter.
GREEN AND INNOVATIVE SOLUTION
– We are very excited to get started at sea. In parallel with the preparations, we are working to put new green and innovative solutions in place. We cannot go into detail on this, but we aim to have this implemented in 2024. We know our potential customers are interested in sustainable solutions, and we want to make a positive difference in this regard, Tingvoll Hope continues.
Amundsen Cable has now begun recruiting key personnel.
– We are lucky to have Per Gunnar Tryggestad on board from the start. He has extensive experience in leasing large cable operations. In addition, we will connect people and companies to us as the number of assignments increases, points out Tingvoll Hope.
BUILDING ON LONG EXPERIENCE
During the start-up, the company has had close dialogue with Atheno's incubator, which is linked to Siva.
– Our job is to help companies like Amundsen Cable make good strategic choices, and give them good tools to succeed. These are people with a long history and experience in the underwater industry. In addition, they have a good reputation and a large network to play on. As we have come to know them, they are both hardworking and goal-oriented, and have every opportunity to succeed in a very exciting industry where there are currently only a few other players, says incubator manager at Atheno, Kjetil Djuve.
Amundsen Cable will be based in Rubbestadneset, in addition to a branch office in Mo i Rana, but the entire Norwegian coast will be its operating area. This means that the company will also be able to take on assignments for local businesses. Customers will mainly be power companies, grid companies and broadband providers.
