Don’t think about subsea cables
Our modern world is connected through subsea cables. 99% of all internet traffic passes through them. Power and fiber cables crisscross the seafloor all over the globe, providing our societies with vital infrastructure.
The first subsea cables carried telegraph signals. We have less use of those today. But fiber and power cables are becoming ever more important, and ever better, year by year. Because of their location in trenches at the bottom of vast oceans, maintenance is both very important and very difficult. Most people don’t really think about these cables, and that’s because they mostly work. To most people, electricity and the internet are things that are just there. Very few people consider the pros and cons of alternating and direct current, or the implications of submerging a high-voltage cable instead of stretching it overhead.
We, however, actually like thinking about these things, and we really like making them work.
It’s our specialty.
